Returning for the Forth Annual Irish Dog Exhibition - Ireland has long been recognized for its dogs and is the origin of many of the world’s most loyal and celebrated breeds. There are 9 recognized Irish breeds including the ever popular Irish Setter with its shiny mahogany coat; the Irish Water Spaniel first bred in the 1800s; the intelligent and active Irish Terrier; the astonishing Irish Wolfhound, the national dog of Ireland for over 2,000 years; the extremely rare Kerry Beagle; the Glen of Imaal Terrier from the Wicklow Mountains; the Kerry Blue Terrier which has been bred for over 100 years; the Wheaten Terrier one of the oldest terriers; and the Red and White Setter, the true Irish Setter.
Each of these breeds are truly unique and this exhibition captures Ireland’s fascination and love for these animals. All of the breed contestants will participate in a parade throughout Irish Fest for all to see. New this year, we will also be including the Border Collie, since it is one of the most recognized breeds in Ireland [though not an actual Irish breed].
